The Party Scene
It is Christmas Eve, and the Stahlbaum home glows with candlelight as friends and family arrive for a festive party. The mysterious Drosselmeyer, Clara's godfather, delights the children with magical dolls and gifts. For Clara, he has saved something special: a wooden Nutcracker. Her mischievous brother Fritz grabs it and breaks it, but Drosselmeyer gently mends the Nutcracker and returns it to a relieved Clara.
The Fight Scene
When the guests have gone and the house falls quiet, Clara creeps back to check on her Nutcracker. As the clock strikes midnight, the room seems to grow, and an army of mice led by their fearsome Mouse Queen scurries out of the shadows. The Nutcracker springs to life and leads his toy soldiers into battle. Just when all seems lost, Clara bravely throws her shoe at the Mouse Queen, saving the day. The Nutcracker is transformed into a Prince, and together they ride a sleigh through the sparkling Land of Snow.
The Land of Sweets
The Sugar Plum Fairy welcomes Clara and her Prince to the Land of Sweets. To honour Clara's courage, she presents a celebration of dances from chocolates, peppermints, flowers and more. The festivities build to the Grand Pas de Deux and a joyful Final Waltz. Then Clara wakes beneath the Christmas tree, Nutcracker in her arms, wondering if it was all a dream.
